Meet your tour guide to explore this ancient city. Visit the Parthenon on the Acropolis, see the Royal Palace, the National Gardens, the Temple of Athena Nike, the marble Olympic Stadium, the remains of the Agora and other highlights. On to Vari for a BBQ lunch at a local tavern. Continue to Cape Sounion to visit the archaeological site of the Temple of Poseidon. The remains are perched on the headland over 200 feet high, surrounded on three sides by the sea. The ruins bear the deeply engraved name of English Romantic poet Lord Byron (1788–1823). Constructed in 444–440 BC over the ruins of another temple, only some columns of the Sounion temple remain today. Return to Athens for dinner at a local tavern with transfers. B, L, D
Drive along the coast to the Corinth Canal, completed in 1893, connecting the Gulf of Corinth to the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. Take pictures at the Canal. Then visit the ruins at Epidaurus to visit its famous ampitheatre built in the 4th century. The theatre has fantastic acoustics and accommodates up to 14,000 for concerts in the summer. On to Nauplion. which became the capital of Greece after the Turks left. See the breathtaking views of the Gulf of Argos and its huge fortress on a guided tour. Balance of the afternoon at leisure to enjoy the many restaurants, shops and quaint streets. Dinner on your own. B
March 14, Tuesday Nauplion - Kalambaka
This morning, transfer to Kalambaka via the Rio-Antirio Bridge, officially known as the Charilaos Trikoupis Bridge after the statesman who first envisaged it. One of the world’s longest multi-span cable-stayed bridges and the longest of the fully suspended type, it crosses the Gulf of Corinth near Patras. The bridge links the town of Rio on the Peloponnese peninsula to Antirrio on mainland Greece. Visit Delphi to see the archaeological site which was considered to be the center of the known world, the place where Heaven and Earth met. This was the place where man was supposedly closest to the gods. Proceed on to Kalambaka where the remainder of the afternoon is free with dinner at the hotel. B, D
March 15, Wednesday Kalambaka
After breakfast,embark on excursion to Meteora, which means “middle of the sky.” Visit two of the remaining six monasteries where, until the 17th century, the primary means of conveying goods and people from these eyries was by means of baskets and ropes. Remainder of the afternoon in free until dinner at Taverna Meteora provided by Connie. B, D
March 19, Sunday Athens - Dallas
Transfer to the airport and board your return flight to Dallas. Full meal service on-board flight. B
